Belechick Macbeth: Sound and fury, signifying nothing

"Let me rephrase that..." (Doug Mills/ NY Times)
“It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing,” Macbeth in Macbeth, by William Shakepeare
(Or “Be careful what you wish for.”)
A week later and we still have to deal with Super Bowl stories. Think this would be the case had the Giants lost?
So the latest story — which will probably be the fodder for anti-Belechik posters for the foreseeable future — is about the Patriots coach expressing the opinion that Mario Manningham was the weakest link in the Giants’ chain.
“Make them go to Manningham,” Belechik ordered, his words captured for the world to hear thanks to NFL Films and broadcast on “Sound FX.” The show was televised Wednesday and will be replayed Saturday at 8 p.m. Eastern.
From the New York Times‘ story by Toni Monkovic,
Crouched on the sideline in front of the players, Belichick emphasized that they had to focus on Giants receivers Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz.
“This is still a Cruz and Nicks game,” he said. “I mean I know we’re right on them, it’s tight. But those are still the guys. Make them go to Manningham, make them go to Pascoe, all right. But let’s make sure we get Cruz and Nicks.”
As if on cue, Eli Manning went to Mario Manningham, whose dazzling 38-yard reception along the sideline, as he barely kept his feet inbounds, sparked the winning drive.
Now even Patriots fans have to wonder if their head coach is a genius or just a blowhard.

To be fair to him, that was an incredible pass and catch. It actually looked like they defended it pretty well, but Manning snuck it between two guys and Manningham somehow stayed in bounds.
