JML update, weekend edition
Ike Davis had his consecutive two-hit game streak stopped, but his overall consecutive hitting streak continues. He singled in all three contests against the visiting Cincinnati Reds and has his batting average up to a still-horrid-bu- improving .194. The Mets dropped all three games after sweeping the Rays in Tampa Bay. Fortunately the Yankees beat the Nationals three straight as well, so the Mets remain 4.5 games back as they prepare to host the Baltimore Orioles.
Ryan Braun had a pretty good weekend, if you remove the Brewer’s Sunday loss to the host Minn. Twins. The game went 15 innings and Braun had just one hit in seven at bats.In the other two games — both Brewer wins — Braun was 5-7 with three home runs, a double, five RBIs and three runs scored. His 19 home runs tops the National League.

Ian Kinsler went 4-13 in a Texas Rangers’ sweep of the visiting Houston Astros. After going 0-4 in the opener, Kinsler had two hits apiece in the next two, scoring four runs, stealing two bases, and driving in three in yesterday’s 9-3 win. Scott Feldman did not appear in the series; his next scheduled start comes Tuesday against the San Diego Padres.

Kevin Youkilis continues to struggling, playing in pain and amid swirling trade rumors. With the Chicago Cubs hosting his Boston Red Sox, there was no DH, so Youk sat out the Saturday game. In the two others, Youk was 107 with a walk. And with both teams struggling, the main story became the tale of Theo Epstein, the former Red Sox GM, now holding down that position (with less success) for the Cubs.
And welcome back Ryan Kalish. The Red Sox outfielder was called up and was the starting centerfielder in last night’s game. In the top of the seventh with the score tied, 3-3, and runners on second and third with one out, Kalish delivered, driving in the go-ahead tally. How cool is that? He also scored a run.

Craig Breslow did not appear in the weekend series between the Ariz. Diamondbacks and the Los Angeles Angels.
Jason Marquis hopes to build on last week’s good game as the Padres host the Rangers tonight.
