I don’t like to say I told you so (Scott Feldman)
Well, I was partially correct. with Roy Oswalt set to join the Texas Rangers’ rotation tomorrow, someone had to make room. And that someone is Scott Feldman. But he’s not being demoted or released, just sent to the bullpen (purgatory). And he’s not happy about it. He’s not even making room for Oswalt, but rather rookie Justin Grimm who has a whopping one game of Major league experience. On that score, he may have a point. I don’t know Grimm’s resume and for what role he’s being groomed. But the Rangers have made an investment of more than $15 million in Feldman over this year and next (although they have an option to buy out his $9.25 mil contract for $600,000) and he hasn’t been living up to the deal.
On the one hand, I understand his philosophy: it’s difficult for some to get bounced back and forth; the requirements are different for starters vs. relievers. On the other hand, his record as a starter does not exactly serve as a testimonial (more here). Oswalt, on the other hand, has a proven track record.
