JML update, Weekend Edition

Kevin Youkilis sat out the first two games of the Red Sox Braves series, enjoying a nice swan song in yesterday’s finale. Not enjoying his two appearances: Ryan Kalish who went 0-6 with a walk, run scored, and three strike outs in the Friday and Saturday contests. The teams split the games, Atlanta taking the opener, 4-1; Boston coming back the next day for the 8-4 victory.

Ike Davis cracked first-inning three run homer (his eighth on the year) off Yankees starter Andy Pettitte to help the Mets to a 6-4 win, their only one in the three game set. Davis was sidelined with food poisoning, although he was well enough to make a last gasp pinch-hit appearance in yesterday’s game. He batted with two outs and a runner on, but flied out to right to give the Yankees the 6-5 win.

Ryan Braun extended his hitting streak to 18 games with singles in each game of the Milwaukee Brewers’ series against the Chicago White Sox. Braun also had one RBI, walked twice and stole a base. The Sox took two of the three games.

Craig Breslow was in the right place at the right time in Saturday’s 10-6 win for the Ariz. Diamondbacks over the Chicago Cubs. he picked up his second victory of the year, tossing 1.2 scoreless innings in which he gave up two hits and struck out three. He also appeared in Friday’s game, going two-thirds of an inning (two hits) in a 6-1 D’backs win.

Once again, Jason Marquis deserved a better fate. He pitched seven innings in his Saturday start against the visiting Seattle Mariners, giving up six hits and three walks while striking out six. He gave up five runs, but only two were earned as he picked up his third loss for the San Diego Padres against one win.

Ian Kinsler was just 1-12 for the Texas Rangers, who took two of three from the visiting Colo. Rockies. The one hit, was a double. he also walked once and struck out four times. Scott Feldman, demoted to the bullpen, did not appear over the weekend.

Michael Schwimer continues his improved pitching for the Philadelphia Phillies. He tossed a scoreless in yesterday’s 3-2 loss to the visiting Tampa Bay Rays. It was his only appearance over the weekend.
