JML update, July 20

Ike Davis had another good game, joining with David Wright to break the NY Mets’ six-game losing streak as they beat the host Washington Nationals, 9-5. They were leading 9-1, and when the bullpen started giving up runs, I must admit to getting a bit pessimistic. Davis had a solo home run in the second inning and drove in another run with a single in the fourth. It was his 14th four-bagger of the year.

Kevin Youkilis did not appear in the Chicago White Sox’s 3-1 loss to the host Boston Red Sox. Chicago dropped three of the four games.

Murray Chass posted this piece on the contentious relationship between Youkilis and his former manager, Bobby Valentine. reiterating some of the points I brought up in a previous post.

Craig Breslow did not appear in the Ariz. Diamondbacks’ 7-6 loss to the host Cincinnati Reds.

Jason Marquis did not appears in the San Diego Padres’ 1-0 win over the visiting Houston Astros. He is slated to start tonight’s game against the visiting Colorado Rockies.

Day/night off for Ian Kinsler and Scott Feldman (Texas Rangers), Michael Schwimer (Philadelphia Phillies), and Ryan Braun (Milwaukee Brewers).
