To paraphrase Mr. Spock, there are infinite universes offering infinite possibilities. So imagine a scenario in which Sandy Koufax eschewed baseball for his favorite sport, basketball.
Koufax grew up in the Bensonhurst section of Brooklyn and attended the same high school as my wife, Lafeyette. He also attended the Jewish community center there where he developed his basketball chops. He basically only joined a sandlot baseball team because his best friend, Fred Wilpon, was playing.
The New York Times‘ Richard Sandomir published this piece attesting to Koufax’s true talents.
