Suspended player poses interesting scenario

I was watching the Mets game last night and the announcers were talking about the recent slump of Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen, who is currently leading the National league in hitting with a .350 mark. Second on the list is San Francisco Giants outfielder Melkey Cabrera with a .346 average. Gary Cohen noted that it is possible that Cabrera, who has been suspended 50 games — the remainder of the season — for testing positive for a performance enhancing drug, to win the batting title should McCutchen continue to falter. Cabrera is one plate appearance shy of the minimum, but the rules allow that the at bat be added (0-1, basically), and if he comes out on top, well, ladies and gentleman, you’re new NL batting king…

There are no allowances, evidently, to prevent a person suspended for PED use from the title.
