According to the JTA, Maccabiah softball games were canceled because the sports complex did not have the proper business license. The first Maccabiah Games

The Jerusalem Post posted this backgrounder about the first  go-around for the quadrennial event, which began in 1932. Slightly less than 400 athletes from 18 countries participated, a far cry from the thousands who will compete this year.
