Women’s dedication to the Jewish community will take center stage at the 2009 annual spring luncheon of the Women’s Campaign of United Jewish Federation of Princeton Mercer Bucks.

Tony Award-nominated Broadway producer Amanda Lipitz will headline the event, which is set for Thursday, April 30, at 11 a.m. at Greenacres Country Club in Lawrenceville.

“The theme is Broadway — take a bow for all you do,” said Naomi Perlman, a board member of Women’s Campaign and The Jewish Center in Princeton, who is serving as luncheon chair.

“It’s thanking everyone for their contributions and for making a difference,” she said.

Women’s Campaign decided to shine a spotlight on Lipitz and her work after Jewish Women International named her one of 10 Women to Watch during this Jewish calendar year of 5769, according to Perlman.

Among Lipitz’ credits as a theatrical producer are the musicals Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and Legally Blonde, as well as the Off-Broadway production Modern Orthodox and Tisch on Broadway, a 2006 gala benefit at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. Lipitz is also executive producer and creator of the MTV series Legally Blonde the Musical: The Search for the Next Elle Woods.

“She’s young, she’s energetic, she’s a Broadway producer, and she’s very philanthropic,” Perlman said. “We thought it would be inspirational to see a young woman who has accomplished so much and who is also very philanthropic.”

Lifelong commitment

During this year’s luncheon, Women’s Campaign will honor Rose Movitch for her lifetime of contributions to the community as it launches its new Woman of Valor Award.

“Every year, we give our Young Leadership Award to someone who is up and coming,” Perlman said. “This year, we just decided we should really honor someone who has given a lifelong commitment. These women are the reason federation is here today.”

A resident of Langhorne, Pa., Movitch is a past president of the Jewish Federation of the Delaware Valley, a founding member of the Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Mercer, and a former board member of Women’s Campaign.

She is a Lion of Judah — a division for women who make individual gifts of $5,000 or more to federation — as well as a member of the boards of Har Sinai Temple in Pennington, the Jewish Community Center of Princeton Mercer Bucks, and Greenwood House.

Movitch also serves as a volunteer with Greenwood House Hospice. With her friend Sheila Berkelhammer of Princeton, she was instrumental in launching Women’s Campaign’s Prime Time Women group.

Movitch said during a recent phone interview that she sees the award as recognition of her lifelong commitment to the idea of community.

“I’m very pleased,” she said. “It means I’ve worked with federation for a long time. To me, federation is the central agency in the community, and it should be supported by everyone.”

The spring luncheon will also feature Chances for Treasure, a silent auction of dozens of gifts and services from prominent area vendors, including jewelry, accessories, vacation stays, spa treatments, and gift certificates to area restaurants, according to Perlman.

“What I would like to see is a great turnout,” she said. “I would like to see women show up, have a great time, and find new ways to get involved in federation.”
