NEW JERSEY Gov. Jon S. Corzine will leave on July 19 for his first official visit to Israel. He will focus on identifying new opportunities to foster trade, investment, commercial, and cultural relationships between New Jersey and Israel.
During his four-day visit, Corzine will meet with high-level government officials and key business leaders to explore partnership opportunities in such industries as stem cell research, alternative energy, green technologies, and research and development in high-tech fields.
The governor was scheduled to go to Israel in 2007, but the trip was canceled after his April 12 automobile accident on the Garden State Parkway, in which he was severely injured.
“Israel has emerged as one of our state’s most important partners in terms of both economic and cultural exchanges,” Corzine said, “and I look forward to furthering those relationships.”
His schedule will include stops in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, and other cities. Traveling at the invitation of the government of the State of Israel, Corzine’s visit is being organized in cooperation and partnership with the Consulate General of the State of Israel in New York.
New Jersey entered into its first sister-state agreement with Israel in 1988, and since then, has signed five additional Memoranda of Understanding to provide platforms for bilateral initiatives in the areas of the life sciences, high-technology, research and development, environmental technology, and culture and educational exchanges.
