The intoxication of that first love

Nu Magazine - April 16, 2009

Where were you the night before
when my pages turned
and your feelings burned a hole
in the pages of my heart
It was dark
you were the stars
and they refused to shine
you were my eyes
but they could not seem to open
I try to tell you
tell you how it hurt to wait
thinking you were coming
checking the faces in the crowd
looking for your familiar expressions
to catch my eye
you have burned a hole
in the pages of my heart
you are those mornings
when my grey cotton pajamas
were the only separation
you were those days
when it wasn’t worth it outside
satisfaction was laying there
knowing it was you
the burst of the tomato
juices dripping
endless crunching
you have gotten under my skin
your feelings burned a whole
in the pages of my heart
