Avi Smolen of New Milford, a senior at Rutgers University and former president of Rutgers Hillel, is one of 30 recipients — 12 of them American — of a fellowship from the Tony Blair Faith Foundation to raise awareness about efforts to fight malaria in Africa.
Smolen and another fellowship recipient, Randa Kuziez, vice president of the national Muslim Students Association, will team up to educate youth groups and religious communities about malaria’s toll in Africa.
The fellows are expected to receive training in London and Chicago, to travel to Mali, Malawi and Tanzania in Africa to view humanitarian efforts against malaria, and to then begin their work in the United States. -Star Ledger Story
Mazel Tov! It’s not Israel advocacy exactly, but it’s the kind of project that you hope can bring understanding between Muslims and JEws and perhaps peace.
