Back to school shopping as a mitzvah

How can you go shopping, not spend a penny, and do a mitzvah all at the same time? Volunteer at NCJW’s Back 2 School Store on Sunday, Aug. 1.

The Back 2 School Store is a program of NCJW Essex County Section, and this is the second annual event. Roughly 500 Essex County children from economically disadvantaged backgrounds will each work with a “personal shopper” to select clothing, school supplies, and personal-care items at the site, which is set up to resemble a department store. More than 300 MetroWest volunteers will be on site to ensure that the day runs smoothly for the children and their families.

While the children are shopping, parents and guardians visit the on-site Family Resource Center, also set up by NCJW, where programs and information about community resources, Medicaid, adult health care, and career and educational opportunities will be available.
