Many years ago DB and I went to the bris of an acquaintance’s son. We didn’t bring a gift. For months after, DB bugged me to get a gift and I kept saying we didn’t need to because we barely knew them and a bris isn’t pay-to-play. He thought if we ate their bagels and said our mazel tovs, we should get a gift.
Although the kid is now in grade school, whenever I see the mom (which isn’t often) that’s what I think of: I never got you a gift, maybe I should have gotten you a gift.
Was I completely off way back then? If you go to a bris, do you automatically need to wrap up a onesie or a toy?
